Marketing strategies & budgets incorporating branded merch is a conversation many businesses across all industries are now discussing and finalising as we wish a belated HNY to everyone from the team at BIM and wishing you all a happy, safe and successful year in 2023

No matter the industry your business services, I’m fairly certain Brands in Motion’s network of Aussie distributors plus manufacturing contacts abroad will combine to deliver the perfect product solution/s across either generic and / or  ‘Brand Name’ options.

With our economy enduring a few difficult years, the top 5 performing industries according to ‘Skills Australia’ report who also invest many dollars into branded merchandise were:  Automotive, Telecommunications, Construction, Child care and Hospitality.

In terms of employment data, Yahoo Finance identified five in-demand industries where job ads more than doubled between May 2019 to May 2022 (when job ads peaked). Naturally staff working from home was included in below data.

The top five industries for job ad growth between 2019 & 2022 were:

  • Hospitality and tourism – 170.1 per cent

  • Community services and development – 121.8 per cent

  • Manufacturing, transport and logistics – 107.8 per cent

  • Retail and consumer products – 107.2 per cent

  • Farming, animals and conservation – 104.9 per cent

It’s important to note that the Retail sector has been performing incredibly well in recent times across all industries with many bricks and mortar businesses also capitalising on their strong online presence to bolster their bottom line. Retail stores also invest heavily into branded merch either for self promotion or to convert sourced merch into retail sales.

Industries such as the Mining are huge investors when it comes to branded merch particularly for staff to thank them for their hard work and commitment. Both Operationally as well as Gift giving, they are huge supporters of ‘Brand name’ products that they co-brand such as Victorinox, Leatherman, Camelbak, Caribee, Stormtech plus other brands. It’s important to add, that all Brands represented on our site feature a handful of products, however, our team have full access to suppliers complete ranges. Regarding the most common branded products that mining companies source, it’s uniforms plus a wide selection of apparel and general operational workwear that miners use daily along with head lamps such as Ledlenser flashlights & headlamps,.

Naturally the level of marketing and promotional merchandise sourced by businesses across all industries is quite significant but then again the Australian Promotional Industry are the recipients of over 1.5 Billion dollars spent by marketers around Australia.

With all the above being said, which other industries are likely to include product merchandise into their marketing budgets. The truth is all industries will include a percentage of their marketing budgets into ordering products with their logo applied whether it’s a $0.45c pen, envelope, stickers through to uniforms and the list goes on. In fact, branded merchandise as mentioned in earlier blogs delivers the best bang for your buck return as businesses spread their good will promoting to their customer base.

Industries such as Real Estate have dominated news over past few years which has also benefitted due to the amount of nationwide construction.  With property prices surging between 2020 and 2022 courtesy of low interest rates, agencies were active in handing out branded gifts whether a quality metal pen, tape measure, packet of jelly beans, post it notes etc but despite rising interest rates and market prices easing since late 2022, the successful agencies keep presenting prospective clients with some type of token branded gift because out of sight, out of mind. Many Real Estate businesses like to offer their new buyers and or sellers gifts of thanks or house warming presents besides Champagne or Water pitchers, here’s two homewares brands that can be Co-branded that may spark ideas- Avanti (water pitchers also available but not featured) and Explore Scientific.

The Hospitality industry has recovered well since early 2022 with Australians coming to terms that the covid is here to stay. With that revelation, travels back on the agenda for many of us who had been reluctant or unable to travel over past few years with Airlines, accommodation providers and tourist hot spots across the country back on Australians itineraries. Tourism is back, just where it belongs as overseas visitors begin arriving once again. As such many businesses within hospitality/tourism also look to keep their name front & centre of consumers minds whether a branded gift is on offer or a gift with purchase incentive such as: Luggage tags, cotton or calico plus non woven or jute shopping bags, fridge magnets, hand sanitisers & masks, sunscreens, pens across Plastic, Metal, Eco, Fluro plus an oldie but a goodie, travel accessories,  the list of token gifts continues. The gift with purchase concepts can include a style of Tote bag, Backpack, Toiletry bag, Carry on or Cooler bag along with bathrobes & Towels including Beach through to headwear. Let’s not forget the ‘Brand name’ options that many tourist/ airlines/ hotels etc may consider either as gift with purchase or simply retail merchandise. Brands such as Victorinox luggage or Swiss Army knives along with Caribee luggage and backpacks through to Camelbak drinkware and the list goes on.

The Automotive industry is quite buoyant despite lack of new car availability across just about all brands. For past year, the buzz word has been Electric as the major car brands continue peppering us and promoting across all media channels both Electric and Hybrid. It’s certainly an exciting time for car dealers as Australians continue to embrace sustainable solutions and exude patience as they join the queues of backorders.  When it comes to gifts, whether its a carshade or car & boat accessories, umbrella, the automotive industry promote apparel very strongly but more often than not, branded jackets etc form part of the Car dealers retail merchandise collection which we’re naturally would be keen to discuss.

Construction has and will continue to be at the forefront of employment as briefly mentioned above with literally thousands of major projects being built as we speak. However similar to the mining industry, a large proportion of branded merch thats been invested is for staff as acknowledgement of their employees contribution with hi vis uniforms representing the most common branded products on site along with headwear during and after a work day. Many of the giveaways are product categories already discussed above such as backpacks and gear bags which are popular along with hydration packs including Camelbak options plus power bank chargers, or gift ideas including safety award incentives such a Headphones and Speakers,  cooler bags & packs including stubby holders, plus sporting sets and golfing accessories to enjoy during their downtime.

We could go on but I guess there’s enough food for thought regarding some of the product ideas above which aren’t necessarily specific to an industry because at the end of the day, we customise/ personalise all products chosen to suit your business.

Thanks for taking the time to read this weeks blog.

All the best & Keep Safe.
